Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time

The success of Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy has led to a proper fourth outing from developer Toys For Bob.

Overview

Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time is a new entry in the Crash Bandicoot franchise following the success of the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy and Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fueled remakes. Toys for Bob are developing the game, who previously developed the Spyro Reignited Trilogy. Confirmed for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with pre-release box art also confirming the game will be backwards compatible on Xbox Series X, though interestingly Series X (or for that matter, Xbox One X) enhancements such as 4k resolution are not shown on the image. The PC version is being released via Blizzard's Battle.net platform.

Leaked Synopsis

Crash is relaxing and exploring his island in his time, 1998, when he finds a mysterious mask hidden away in a cave, Lani-Loli. The mask is one of the Quantum Masks and apparently knows Aku-Aku, Crash's mask friend! With the Quantum Masks returning and a Quantum Rift appearing near our heroes, they decide to bravely head through to different times and dimensions to stop whoever is responsible.

Seemingly expanding on the time travel concept introduced in Crash Bandicoot: Warped, the game will feature some sort of time travel mechanic. Travel between different dimensions is also mentioned, which combined with the fact that Spyro developer Toys for Bob is working on the game may indicate the possibility of the game crossing over with the Spyro series, as the two universes have done in the past, most notably in the Game Boy Advance games Crash Bandicoot Purple: Ripto's Rampage and Spyro Orange: The Cortex Conspiracy.

Character Design

The characters on the cover, Crash and Coco Bandicoot, appear to have undergone light redesigns including yellow fur covering their previously pinkish faces, visible canine teeth, other minor tweaks to facial features and updated outfits which remain close to their previous wardrobe.
