Rakugakids

A fighting game exclusive for the Nintendo 64 by Konami, where kids fight with doodles drawn to life.

Overview

Rakugakids is a 2.5D fighting game developed by KCE Kobe and published by Konami for the Nintendo 64 in both Japan (on July 23, 1998) and Europe (on December 4, 1998).

The game's name is a portmanteau of the Japanese word "rakugaki" (a doodle), and the English word "kids", a reflection of the game's visual style of the game (where the fighters resemble childrens' drawings).

The game's story involves a group of six kids (known as the Tinkles gang) as they find eight crayons with mysterious power in ancient ruins. When Andy's brother Val steals two of the crayons and creates a doodle that comes to life (and wreck havoc), the Tinkles gang must doodle their own heroes to come to life and take on Val (along with a mysterious biker dude).

While the game has not received any sequels or remakes, the character Beartank later appeared in Castlevania: Circle of the Moon (as a hidden transformation) and in Konami Krazy Racers (as a hidden character). Music from the game also appears in some Bemani games.

Gameplay

It is one of the three fighting games for the Nintendo 64 to use the traditional 'Capcom-style' three-punch three-kick control scheme (the others being ClayFighter 63 1/3 and its alternate version).
