Overview

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel is an RPG in Falcom's long running Legend of Heroes franchise developed for the PlayStation 3 and Vita. The game is the third story arc in the Trails sub-series, and the first game in the series developed for HD consoles. Cold Steel was initially released in Japan on September 26, 2013 and was later published in North America by XSEED Games in 2015, followed by a PC port in 2017. The PC release was developed by XSEED themselves, with assistance from Peter “Durante” Thoman, and featured various visual enhancements along with 5,000 additional lines of recorded dialogue, increasing the amount of voice acting in the game by almost 50 percent. Falcom also ported Trails of Cold Steel to the PlayStation 4 in 2018, which was developed by Artdink and contained many of the enhancements from the PC release such as the addition of a skip mode. Again, XSEED published the PlayStation 4 version in North America in 2019, adding dual-audio support to the title along with the additional English voice acting from the PC release. A direct sequel, Trails of Cold Steel II, was released in 2014 on the same platforms.
