Overview:

Grimoire: Manastorm is a multiplayer class-based shooter with a magical twist. Built in UDK by a small indie team, Omniconnection, players take control of a powerful wizard from one of two factions where they battle in interesting environments. Grimoire features dozens of unique spells, customizable classes, and game modes rooted in the classics but with unique features.

Combat

Most of Grimoire’s combat is centered around each players base spells: four active skills and one passive skill. Each player also has two selectable spells: 1 Movement and 1 Utility spell which can be chosen from a pool to customize each class.

Combat is also highly mobile and reactive. By using Manastep (W,A,S,D + Shift) and movement spells players can dodge incoming spells, move around the map quickly, gain high ground on an opponent, escape from a bad fight, or charge the enemy. The default movement spell is Teleport and can be used by pressing F and is perfect for doing any of the above.

Utility selectable spells especially are designed around reactive gameplay. A couple examples include using Spellshield to block incoming damage from one spell or Stoneskin to absorb the effects of an entire meteor storm ultimate. You can lure enemies into Chains of Binding to trap them in place making them a prime target for spells. Or block a huge amount of damage from one direction with Fortify.

Classes

Grimoire currently has 6 out of its 10 classes ingame: Fire, Ice, Lightning, Earth, Nether, and Nature. The remaining four will be added throughout Early Access development. Most classes fit a designed role but all can be customized to suit other roles as well through the selectable spell system.

Fire

Fire is designed specifically for players new to Grimoire but can also be a lot of fun for more experienced players despite its relative simplicity. At its core the class is an area damage dealer and it excels in both attacking and defending at short to medium range.

Ice

Ice excels at close ranged area damage while also slowing enemy movement.

Nature

Nature is Grimoire’s first and currently only healing class but can also deal good damage and is suited for a combat healing role.

Earth

Earth excels at medium to close range and has a powerful ultimate spell.

Lightning

Lightning is a long ranged damage dealer and excels when keeping enemies at distance and can take advantage of Grimoire's movement system to find the perfect sniping spots.

Nether

Nether is a control class and can pull enemies to them or hold a whole team in place with their ultimate.

Game Modes

Grimoire's main game mode is currently Conquest which is inspired by popular games like Day of Defeat, Team Fortress 2, and the Battlefield series but with a twist. Players are divided into two teams: Validus (Red) and Mangus (Blue) and fight for control over powerful magic ley-lines which when controlled serve as a teleport back into battle. Every player starts in a basic spawn room and then can enter the map by traveling through the teleporter which takes you to the ley-line (control point) closest to the central point which your team controls. Controlling ley-lines gives points to your team and the first to 1500 points wins (or the team with the most points when times runs out).

This game mode is still a work in progress and other features will be added throughout early access. The remaining game modes will also be added during early access development.
