Racing Hero

Racing Hero is a 1989 arcade racing game from Sega.

Overview

Racing Hero is considered a spiritual successor to the Hang-On series, but uses an over-the-shoulder perspective.

The game ran on the Sega X Board arcade system, based on Sega's Super Scaler technology.

The music was composed by Hikoshi Hashimoto.

Gameplay

The gameplay is like a cross between Super Hang-On and OutRun. Like Super Hang-On, the player controls a motorcyclist, using a motorbike handlebar controller. Like OutRun, the gameplay involves the player riding through a traffic-filled road and reaching the next checkpoint before the time limit runs out. Also like OutRun, there are forked roads along the way, giving the player a choice between two paths, leading up to four different ending points. In one of the endings, the driver takes off the helmet and is revealed to be female.

For its tracks, the game includes ten different international locations, with their own themes. In England, for example, cottages, red buses and the Houses of Parliament can be seen. In Egypt, deserts and pyramids can be seen.
