Ion Fury

An all-new Build engine game that follows in the tradition of 90s FPS classics like Duke Nukem 3D and Blood.

Overview

Ion Fury is a deliberately-retro sci-fi first-person shooter developed by Voidpoint and published by 3D Realms and 1C Company for the PC and Linux on August 15, 2019. It will be later released for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Mac.

A prequel to the top-down action game Bombshell, Ion Fury is a first-person shooter that runs on a modified version of the 24-year-old sprite-based Build engine and is the first commercial game to utilize the engine in 20 years (the last being WWII GI). It keeps with the fast-paced theme of deliberately-retro first-person shooters of the time (such as DUSK and Amid Evil).

Players reprise the role of Shelly "Bombshell" Harrison (a bomb disposal expert of the Global Defense Force) prior to the events of Bombshell. When transhumanist cult leader Dr. Jadus Heskel unleashes a cybernetic army on the futuristic city of Neo D.C., it's up to Shelly to become a one-woman army.

A preview version was released for the PC and Linux on February 28, 2018, limited to the first Zone and having limited functionality. The game was originally titled Ion Maiden, but was changed due to a lawsuit by the holding company of the band Iron Maiden.
