Ryu: Naki no Ryuu Yori

A riichi mahjong game based on the crime-themed mahjong manga Mahjong Hishouden: Naki no Ryuu.

Overview

Ryu: "Naki no Ryuu" Yori (the sub-title loosely translated to "From 'Naki no Ryuu'") is a riichi mahjong game published by Wolf Team for NEC PC-98 computers in Japan on June 28, 1990, with a port to Sharp X68000 computers released on February 15, 1991.

Based on the mahjong manga and OVA Mahjong Hishouden: Naki no Ryuu, Ryu features two side-stories based on the manga and a unique UI layout that shows each player's discards and open melds on separate small windows, leaving the large center area open for cinematic moments (such as opponent banter and images reflecting the winning hand's value).

Along with a free-battle mode, the game includes two story modes, or "Drama Modes". The first, "Ryuu o Sagase", puts players in the role of yakuza Yuji Sotoda while the second, "Saikyou no Otoko, Sononaha Ryuu", puts players in the role of the titular Ryuu.

The original manga later received two additional adaptations for the Super Famicom.
