Autoduel

A top-down driving game that was released in 1985 as an adaptation of the 1980 role-playing game Car Wars.

Overview

Autoduel is a 1985 driving game by Origin Systems, released for several early computer platforms.

The player must accomplish tasks to earn money and advance the plot, while improving driving skills and your car. You generally had two options in order to earn additional money. The first was to compete in the arena that could be found in each city where you would compete against several cars and the winner would collect a pot of money. Competition was ranked by the value of the cars and this provided a simple way to practice your driving. You also had the opportunity to perform courier tasks involving driving between cities. This was made difficult by the relatively complex and poorly marked routes (a paper map was provided) and by the cars along the road that would try to stop you.
