Sinistron

Overview

Sinistron (known as Violent Soldier in Japan) is a side-scrolling shoot 'em up developed by Alfa System and published by Information Global Service for the TurboGrafx-16 platform.

The game has two different plots, depending on the version played. In the PC Engine version, Violent Soldier, the player is sent along with a fleet of starfighters to investigate an alien intelligence within a distant solar system that is assaulting the Earth with debris. In the TurboGrafx-16 version, Sinistron, the titular alien intelligence heads to the solar system to devour all the planets. The player's ship is the only survivor of the initial strike on the Sinistron.

The player's ship is capable of multiple upgrades. These include options, which shield the player from above and below, and power-ups that change the ship's invincible frontal jaws from closed to half-open to fully open (which vastly boosts firepower).
