Casper

A licensed game based on the 1995 movie featuring Christina Ricci and Bill Pullman. Casper and his human friend Kat work together to foil the plans of an evil rich heiress and her assistant.

Overview

Casper is a set of licensed games released around the same time to coincide with the 1995 movie of the same name. While there are a mix of developers for each console, the core game is roughly the same: the player, as either Casper or Kat, must stop Carrington and her assistant Dibs from finding the Lazarus machine - created by Casper's father to resurrect Casper after he dies of pneumonia - and exploiting it to become immortal. Unlike most movie licensed games, it only uses a specific segment of the movie: specifically, the final act.

The SNES game (developed by Imagineering) uses a side-scrolling perspective and has Casper attempting to protect Kat, who follows Casper around automatically, by using his shapeshifting talents to remove obstacles in their way. The Super Famicom version (developed by Natsume), conversely, has the player controlling Kat as she protects Casper from Carrington and Dibs with baseballs. This version of the game uses an isometric perspective, and uses adventure game style puzzles.

The Saturn, PlayStation, 3DO and Game Boy Color is a top-down adventure game that uses digitized photos for its backgrounds. The Game Boy game is a side-scrolling action game similar to the SNES version.
