Super Fighter

A Taiwanese fighting game for MS-DOS computers, heavily reminiscent of Street Fighter II. It is known for its freeware release (and enhanced Windows port) from a fan website that later became Super Fighter Team.

Overview

Super Fighter (also known in Taiwan as Kuài Dǎ Zhì Zūn) is a 2D fighting game developed and published by C&E, Inc. for MS-DOS PCs in Taiwan on February 20, 1993. It also received a limited release in both Australia (as Fatal Encounter) and South Korea (as Street Counter).

A traditional fighting game reminiscent of Street Fighter II: The World Warrior, Super Fighter puts players as one of eight martial artists from around the world as they fight.

The game was later re-released online in 2003 as freeware (with full permission from C&E) from a fan website that later became the studio Super Fighter Team. During this time, a browser-based port of the game (built in Flash) was made available. The game later received an enhanced freeware Windows port on November 6, 2013. Also known as Super Fighter Special Edition, this version was created in the M.U.G.E.N. engine and has numerous updates (including new attacks and animations, a super meter, playable bosses, and an arranged soundtrack).

The game also received a mobile puzzle game spin-off by Super Fighter Team on December 21, 2008, titled Super Fighter Block Battle. It was released to mobile devices running the Symbian OS and features a versus-style of Tetris.
