Railfan

A collaboration between the studios behind the Train Simulator and Densha de Go! series puts players in the cab of three trains in three rail lines (one in Tokyo, one linking Kyoto and Osaka, and one in Chicago) using real-life full-HD footage to simulate driving the trains.

Overview

Railfan is a train driving simulation game developed by Ongakukan (along with Taito) and published by Ongakukan for the PlayStation 3 in Japan and other Asian regions on December 20, 2006.

The 28th installment of the Train Simulator series and the second collaborative title with the Taito studio behind the Densha de Go! series (after Train Simulator + Densha de Go!), Railfan brings the series to the PS3 while including full-motion video in full HD and revamping the interface (allowing for fullscreen video and views from outside the train). It follows three routes:

The JR East Chūō Line in the Japanese city of Tokyo, from Mitaka Station to Tokyo Station. The train used is the JR East 201 Series electric train. This railway was previously visited in the series' first and 19th installments.

The Keihan Main Line linking the Japanese cities of Kyoto and Osaka, from Demachiyanagi Station to Yodoyabashi Station. The train used is the Keihan 8000 Series electric train. This route was previously followed in the series' 18th installment, albeit in the opposite direction.

The CTA Brown Line in the U.S. city of Chicago, starting and ending at Fullerton (as it makes its way down to the Loop and completes its circuit to return back). The train used is the CTA 3200 Series electric train.

The game later received one sequel under the Railfan name, titled Railfan: Taiwan High Speed Rail.
