Super Fantasy Zone

A Genesis-only sequel in the Fantasy Zone series. It never received a US release on its original platform, but would eventually become available via Virtual Console in 2008.

Overview

Super Fantasy Zone is a 1992 sequel in the cute 'em up Fantasy Zone series and the last of the core Fantasy Zone games, and plays much like its originator. The player, as Opa-Opa, must fly across a horizontally-focused looping environment (similar to Williams' Defender) and take down special enemies that constantly spawn lesser enemies. Once these enemies are gone, the player then fights the boss. They can also use money they can find after defeating the special enemies to upgrade their weapons and accessories, but need to find a randomly occurring shop balloon first.

Super Fantasy Zone was released in 1992 for the Mega Drive in Japan. It saw a European Mega Drive release the following year, but not a US Genesis release. It first became available in the US via the Wii's Virtual Console in 2008.
