In 2010 and 2011, James Dearden's Technocrat Games released a freeware game named Technobabylon in three parts:

  • Part 1: The Prisoner of Fate
  • Part 2: The Weight of the World
  • Part 3: In Nuntius Veritas

This caught the attention of Dave Gilbert of Wadjet Eye Games. Dave offered James to make a fully voiced commercial game of Technobabylon, which led to the first collaboration between the two companies. The freeware version was available for download on the site of Adventure Game Studio, but that possibility was removed.
