Overview
Sonic Forces: Speed Battle is a free-to-play behind-the-back on-foot racing game developed by Hardlight and released by Sega for iOS devices on November 2, 2017 and for Android devices on November 15, 2017.
Based on the 2013 endless runner Sonic Dash, Speed Battle has players racing others in four-player multiplayer on-foot races, collecting gold rings for increased speed, dodging various obstacles, and utilizing power-ups to both hinder opponents and give themselves a speed boost. Unlike Sonic Dash, it utilizes a gacha system for acquiring new characters and upgrading their abilities.
As the name implies, Sonic Forces: Speed Battle is a promotional tie-in game with the mainline Sonic game Sonic Forces.
Characters
Unlike Sonic Dash and its sequel, Speed Battle uses a gacha system and has all the characters grouped by their rarity.
Each character has unique attributes for their maximum speed, acceleration, and body strength, and have three unique power-up items (one offensive attack, one speed boost, and one defensive trap). Both attributes and items can be upgraded by collecting duplicates in the gacha system or by using the in-game Gold Rings currency.
